Today turned out to be a great day for climbing Stevens Pass. Troy and I left the hotel in Skykomish around 7:30 am and the weather was perfect. It was dry and about 60 degrees.
We stopped many times on the way up for photos and video. At one point we were riding in short sleeved jerseys. I didn't see too many other riders until we got to Steven's Pass. While there we saw Ken W., Blaine and Thea. I noticed my battery was running out so I couldn't take a lot of pictures.
After our snack stop at the pass we put on warm clothes for the ride down. It actually was warm so I really didn't need them. As we were going down the pass I found a Wash. license plate and gave it to Troy as he was collecting them.
Our lunch stop was at a rest stop about 20 miles down the pass. It was cool here too. Then we had about 15 more miles to Leavenworth.
We got to the B/B around 2 pm. and settled in. I took off my fenders and cleaned my bike. Also tonight I got to have my own room at the B/B.
We were on our own for dinner. First I was to meet the group for a beer at a particular pub. Recumbent Ken and I had a beer there but no one else seemed to show up so we walked into town and saw others. Then about 8 of us had a German style meal at another restaurant.
Starting out early with no traffic
Troy turning around to get a picture
Washington Roads trying to make biking safe
A stretch of road where we got our own lane
One of the many waterfalls on the road
There were many waterfalls off the side of the road. We reached Stevens Pass at about 10 am.
At the top of Stevens Pass my battery ran out and I only got a few pictures. Blaine and Thea had hot chocolate and food for us.
A little over 4,000 feet elevation
Then we had a 17 mile downhill along the Tumwater River to our lunchstop. The riding was wonderful. Troy kept saying "this is what it's all about."
There were so many nice vistas about four of us kept stopping. Unfortunately my camera battery was dead.
We reached Levenworth around 2. This evening Tom, Troy, the two Johns and Ian went to a german style restaurant for dinner. This town is a recreated German town to attract tourists.
